The Beginning
Inspired by two big nephews rocking out in the Rotterdam band called The Apers, four friends decided to form a band called The Freckles. They all had some on their butts. Twice a week they shook their Freckled butts with songs inspired by The Ramones and Greenday. The first show ever took place at a local showcase. The entire band where watching The Apers when Kevin Aper asked them on stage. The reaction was overwhelming, and lead to the first real show. Over there the crowd was surprised about the way the young punkrockers played their gig in a flawless and smooth way.
Discovery
Shows kept on coming in and at a showcase they where approaced by Scal Langelaan of Mojo (the leading booking agency in The Netherlands) with the question if they'd like to play at the Lowlands 2003 festival. T he guys were stunned, but mumbeled a yes. This got them a lot of publicity. Interviews took place with 3FM, Oor and other big names. A documentary was shot and broadcasted throughout the entire Netherlands by the VPRO. This documentary showed the preparations prior to the biggest show they've ever played. The performance took place in a crowded big tent and was the absolute high! Over 4000 people watched the show and were overwhelmed. The reactions will never be forgotten!
Then...
Two major labels; Universal Music and Dino/EMI got in touch with The Freckles. Because of the bad overall sales of CD's, Dino/EMI decided not to sign The Freckles. Septmeber 2005 The Freckles release their fisrt album entitled: Taking chances, making changes. Recorded in Rotterdam's # 1 studio. The result is a versatile, honest CD on which you'll hear the outcome of years and years of hard work and songwriting and re-writing. Interviews are taken by the Algemeen Dagblad and many local newspapers. But the real fun started in 2006.
2006/2007
The reviews came in and were positive. People seemed to like The Freckles. March 2006 The Freckles got airplay on the national radio station; 3FM, with the song Taking Chances, Making Changes. A live show was given too. The same month The Freckles appeared on a CD with big dutch bands like The Heideroosjes and Peter Pan Speedrock. The idea was to cover and record a song from The Apers. This to celebrate their 10th anniversary. This CD is distributed and issued by Sonic Rendesvouz.
